The design of this book uses a modern layout that allows Baijie’s photographs to express themselves without too much visual interference. By capturing and emphasizing the feeling found in her work in a subtle way. In her photographs Baijie balances between reality and a fantasy world. Often they tell a story of young idealistic rock’n’rollers living in a romantizied dream. This visual contrast between the edgy and the dreamy inspired me to give the book an unpolished yet minimalistic look. The typography references the kind of typewriter font often found in old love letters and romantic literature.
While working on this project I found an interest in bookbinding techniques and decided to stitch the book by hand, again communicating the roughness of her style.
